Recently, Intelligent Medicine Institute of Fudan University received exciting news. The 2024 International Collaboration Fund for Creative Research Teams project, led by Professor Roland Eils, a member of German National Academy of Sciences and the founding director of the Digital Health Center at Berlin Institute of Health, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, has successfully passed rigorous review and was approved for funding, securing a direct grant of 6 million RMB. This historic achievement marks a significant and brilliant step forward for Intelligent Medicine Institute of Fudan University in the field of intelligent medicine and global health science research cooperation. It is also the first time that Fudan University’s Shanghai Medical College has won approval for such an international-level project, making the accomplishment even more meaningful.
This project brings together global expertise, with team members including not only Professor Irina Lehmann, Chair of the Department of Molecular Epidemiology at the Berlin Institute of Health, but also Professor Song Yuanlin, a leading figure in Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, Professor Liu Lei, Executive Vice Dean of Intelligent Medicine Institute of Fudan University, and Dr. Gu Lei, associate professor from the German Max Planck Institute. This "Dream Team" of renowned experts from both China and German has fully demonstrated the unlimited potential of cross-border and interdisciplinary scientific collaboration, laying a solid foundation for the successful application and approval of the project.
As a pioneer in the field of digital health, Professor Roland Eils brings profound academic expertise and extensive practical experience to the project, providing strong scientific leadership. His research team has achieved remarkable results in cutting-edge fields such as intelligent medicine and big data analysis. The collaboration with Intelligent Medicine Institute and Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University,aims to deeply explore the complex process of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbation and its transformation into lung cancer based on AI and molecular diagnostic technologies. The goal is to achieve breakthrough results in this major challenge to human health.
The approval of this project not only represents high recognition of the research capabilities and international cooperation of Intelligent Medicine Institute of Fudan University,but also serves as further evidence of China’s significantly enhanced influence in global intelligent medicine and health science research cooperation.
