Professor David Clifton Visits Intelligent Medicine Institute, Fudan University
On May 29, 2024, Professor David Clifton, the Royal Academy of Engineering Chair of Clinical Machine Learning at the University of Oxford, and Dr. Yujiang Wang, Research Scientist, Oxford Suzhou Centre for Advanced Research, visited the Intelligent Medicine Institute, Fudan University for in-depth exchanges. They were warmly received by Professor Lei Liu, Executive Vice Director, Intelligent Medical Institute, Fudan University, Professor Feizhen Wu, Director of the Medical Science Data Center of Shanghai Medical College, Professor Yungang He, Associate Professor Fan Zhong, Associate Professor Wen Zhang, other faculty representatives, and students.
Firstly, Professor David Clifton delivered an excellent academic report titled "Advances in AI for Healthcare." Using engaging, accessible language, Professor Clifton detailed Oxford University's work in AI modeling for healthcare, generative pre-training models for drug development, and big data analysis. He focused on research into cardiovascular diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, epidemiology and the immune system, infectious diseases, and healthcare systems in low- and middle-income countries, sharing a series of significant findings and his unique insights and experiences in intelligent medicine. The lecture attracted a large audience of faculty and students, who engaged actively in the lively discussion.
After the lecture, Professor Clifton and his colleagues toured the History Museum of Shanghai Medical College at Fudan University. Next, Professor Clifton and his colleagues visited the Medical Science Data Center of Shanghai Medical College. Director Feizhen Wu introduced the center's advanced technologies and achievements in medical research data management and application. Professor Clifton expressed admiration for the center's efficient operations and innovative applications and provided valuable suggestions on further enhancing the use of data in medical research.
Following this, Professor Clifton and Dr. Yujiang Wang engaged in in-depth discussions with the leadership and faculty representatives of the Intelligent Medicine Institute. Both sides exchanged views on the development trends, research hotspots, and cooperation opportunities in intelligent medicine, reaching a preliminary consensus on future collaboration directions.
