The Fudan-Guanghua International Forum for Young Scholars have become key events for Fudan University in actively seeking and selecting top talent. Since its inception in 2016, this forum has been held for seven consecutive years, attracting numerous outstanding young scholars with strong innovative abilities and significant development potential. The Guanghua Forum aligns with national and Shanghai’s major strategic needs, focusing on talent acquisition in key industries. It implements Fudan University's new talent policies and focuses on attracting excellent talent, especially overseas young scholars who meet the requirements for the National Natural Science Fund for Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas).
The 2024 Fudan Guanghua International Forum for Young Scholars - Intelligent Medicine Sub-forum has officially begun and is scheduled for late November 2024, combining online and offline formats. We warmly invite outstanding young talents worldwide to participate, and we also welcome in-person visits for inspections and exchanges.
Introduction of Intelligent Medicine Institute, Fudan University
Intelligent Medicine Institute, Fudan University approved in June 2022, is a research institute led by Fudan University’s President, Academician Jin Li. It operates as an independent research institution of Fudan University. Professor Zhu Tongyu, Vice President of Fudan University Shanghai Medical College, serves as the inaugural dean.
The institute aims to meet the nation’s major needs and focuses on the cutting edge of medical sciences, promoting interdisciplinary integration across medicine, humanities, sciences, engineering, and law. By leveraging modern medical science theories and integrating big data, cloud computing, and AI technologies, the institute explores the essence and patterns of diseases, and develops intelligent diagnostic and therapeutic methods for clinical applications. Supported by projects such as "Double First-Class" and Shanghai’s local high-level university construction plans, the institute is constructing platforms such as a medical research data center, a metaverse medical platform, and an intelligent medical experimental platform to serve medical research and education.
The institute seizes the opportunities provided by Fudan University’s AI for Science (AI4S) initiative, integrating top-tier disciplines and focusing on the intersection of biomedical and information technologies. It advances data-driven scientific discoveries and their application, aiming to become a leading discipline in intelligent medicine both domestically and internationally. The institute nurtures innovative and globally minded medical professionals with technical and leadership skills, contributing to Fudan University’s vision of becoming a world-class university with Chinese characteristics.
Introduction of Key Academic Leader
Jin Li
Professor, PhD Supervisor, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
President of Fudan University, Dean of Shanghai Medical College, Fudan University, Chair of the Academic Committee of Intelligent Medicine Institute, Fudan University.
Professor Jin focuses on the genetic structure of populations, the origins and migrations of human populations, complex human genetic diseases, and computational biology. In recent years, he has led several key national research projects, including the National Key R&D Program, National Science and Technology Support Key Projects, and Shanghai major municipal science and technology projects.etc. To date, he has published over 800 papers in prominent international academic journals such as Nature, Science, and Cell, with over 44,000 citations. He has twice received the State Natural Science Award (as the first contributor), the Tan Jiazhen Life Science Achievement Award, the Tan Jiazhen Life Science Innovation Award, the HUGO (Human Genome Organization) Excellence in Science Award, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award, the Shanghai Science Elite Award, and several provincial and ministerial-level Science and Technology Progress First Prizes.
Roland Eils
Professor, Doctoral supervisor. Academician of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
Founding director of the BIH Digital Health Center and chair at Charité University Medicine Berlin, director of the Health Data Science unit and honorary professor at the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University.
Prof. Roland Eils has an extensive track record in Al models in health and in translational genomics. Over the past years he has developed a number of Al models predicting a wide number of disease endpoints. He is recognized as a leading figure in computational omics in cancer and the life sciences in Europe and beyond. He has signed important papers as first or last author in the best journals in medicine and the life sciences including Cell, Nature, Nature Medicine, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Cell Biology, Nature Genetics, Lancet Digital Health, PNAS, Journal of Cell Biology, and Molecular Systems Biology. He has published more than 750 papers (350 over the past ten years) in peer reviewed journals. They received a total of more than 75,000 citations resulting in an h-index of 115. (Source: Google scholar; March 2024). Accordingly, he is listed as "Highly cited researcher" by Clarivate in 2022 at the intersection of several disciplines ("cross-field").
Zhu Tongyu

Vice Dean of Shanghai Medical College, Fudan University, Director of the Intelligent Medicine Institute, Fudan University, Chief Urologist at affiliated Zhongshan Hospital , Fudan University.
Professor Zhu has extensive clinical and research experience, particularly in AI-assisted kidney transplantation. He has made significant advancements in this field, leading the way both domestically and internationally. His contributions include proposing the concept of an AI-driven full-process system for organ transplantation and achieving notable results in AI-assisted kidney transplantation. He has been recognized as an Outstanding Discipline Leader in Shanghai, a Shanghai Leading Talent, and a recipient of the New Century Talent Program in the city's healthcare system. Zhu has published over 200 academic papers in the fields of surgery, virology, basic medical science, and hospital management. Additionally, he holds several patents, many of which have been successfully commercialized.
Gu Jianying

Professor Gu leads her team in utilizing hospital, healthcare, and frontline clinical work as key scenarios to promote the clinical application of new technologies, including "cloud, big data, IoT, AI, and blockchain." Their mission is to offer specialized intelligent medical information services and develop digital healthcare assets, thereby advancing the digitization and intelligent transformation of medical care. Gu has led six national and provincial projects, including key national R&D projects in precision medicine and general grants from the National Natural Science Foundation. She is the lead author of one monograph, co-author of nine, and holds several patents. She has published over 130 articles, including more than 30 SCI-indexed papers, with research featured in leading journals such as Nature Communications, Advanced Science, and Molecular Cancer.
Liu Lei
Researcher, PhD Supervisor.
Executive Vice Dean of the Intelligent Medicine Institute, Fudan University, Fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI).
Researcher Liu Lei specializes in medical artificial intelligence, large medical models, biomedical big data integration and mining, biomedical knowledge graphs, and bioinformatics. He has served as the principal investigator on several national-level projects, including the National 863 Program and key national R&D projects. To date, he has published over 120 academic papers, obtained more than 20 software copyrights, and secured over 10 patents. Liu is also the chief editor of the third edition of the national higher education textbook Medical Big Data and Artificial Intelligence for the Health Information Management/Medical Informatics program.

Application Requirements
Young Talents:
Generally, candidates should be no older than 38 years of age.
Must hold a PhD degree.
Candidates should exhibit active academic thinking and the ability to conduct high-level original academic research independently. They must show emerging prominence in their research fields, have achieved influential academic accomplishments, possess strong development potential, and meet the basic qualifications for national-level youth talent programs.
Super Postdoctoral Fellows:
Generally, candidates should be no older than 35 years of age.
Must be either about to obtain a PhD or have received a PhD within the past 3 years.
Candidates should have an outstanding track record of scientific research achievements.
Development Environment
Young Talents:
Research Funding: Up to 6 million RMB (including funding from the National Natural Science Fund for Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas)).
Salary: No less than 500,000 RMB/year (pre-tax), with a guaranteed annual performance bonus of 50,000 RMB/year (pre-tax) for the first three years of the initial employment period, and no cap on other performance-based rewards. Active recommendation for various talent fund applications.
Housing: Housing subsidies up to 1.775 million RMB (including one-time personal subsidies from national and local governments after being selected for the National Natural Science Fund for Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas)).
