The 30th Chinese Medical Association Medical Informatics Conference was grandly held in Shanghai
The 30th Chinese Medical Association Medical Informatics Conference convened in Shanghai from November 7-10, 2024. Under the theme “Empowering Medicine with Digital Intelligence to Ignite New Productivity,” the event brought together international experts and industry leaders to explore advancements at the intersection of medical informatics and intelligent technology, fostering innovation and growth in healthcare. Hosted by the Chinese Medical Association’s Medical Informatics Branch, co-organized by Intelligent Medicine Institute at Fudan University, the conference provided a dynamic forum to shape the future of this rapidly evolving field.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Zhangsuo Liu, Chair of the CMA Medical Informatics Branch, delivered remarks alongside other notable leaders: Professor Jianying Gu, Deputy Director of the Intelligent Medicine Institute at Fudan University and Party Secretary of Zhongshan Hospital; Professor Han Xia, Deputy Director of the Integrated Care and Information Technology Department of Shanghai Shenkang Hospital Development Center; and Professor Feng Jun, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission’s Office. Professor Xinkui Liu, Secretary General of the CMA Medical Informatics Branch, moderated the session, welcoming hundreds of distinguished medical informatics experts and guests from across the nation.

Keynote speakers, including Professors Fanfan Hou, Jianying Gu, Guangjun Yu, and Tao Dai, shared pioneering insights on topics such as “The Application of Medical Big Data in Clinical Practice,” “AI-Driven High-Quality Development in Public Hospitals,” “Innovations in Large-Model Applications for Smart Healthcare,” and “Health Big Data and Medical AI.” These sessions provided attendees with cutting-edge perspectives on the transformative role of AI and big data in healthcare, underscoring the field’s potential to revolutionize medical practice.

The conference also hosted a launch event for the book Healthcare Data Governance, published by Tsinghua University Press and edited by Professor Liu Lei, Executive Vice Director of the Intelligent Medicine Institute at Fudan University and a board member of DAMA China. Authors participated in a well-attended signing ceremony, celebrating this important contribution to the field.

Diverse academic exchange sessions enriched the conference, with more than 70 presentations spanning medical big data, AI, hospital information systems, medical librarianship, and education. Events included special interest group meetings, youth science and poster competitions, and paper presentations, all fostering robust discussions on the latest research and developments in medical informatics.
Four focused forums offered further deep dives into specialized topics: medical big data and artificial intelligence, hospital information systems, medical libraries, and medical information education. The forum on AI and big data attracted particular attention, featuring discussions on AI advancements in Chinese healthcare, progress in disease control through digital intelligence, applications of disease-focused AI models, breakthroughs in AI-based medical imaging, and more. Professor Liu Lei of Fudan University presented a compelling report, “Medical Research Driven by AI Large Models,” illustrating how these models are transforming data sharing, life science research, and intelligent healthcare solutions. His insights sparked discussions on the integration of AI and medicine and the future of intelligent healthcare.

A series of interactive workshops, including big data training, further enriched the event, with nearly 200 participants from across the nation. The high-quality training content received widespread acclaim for its practical value and relevance.
