The Fudan University Phenome and Precision Medicine Research Center, established under the Fudan University Institute of Intelligent Medicine (in preparation), is dedicated to addressing national major health challenges and cutting-edge medical science issues. It aims to build a precision medicine research and application system driven by technology, guided by data, mechanism-oriented, and prioritized for translational impact. By integrating clinical resources from Fudan University and its affiliated hospitals, the center focuses on major diseases and region-specific health conditions, constructing a high-quality, multi-dimensional phenome research platform to advance disease mechanism elucidation and precision medicine systems, ultimately establishing itself as a globally influential hub for medical science and innovation.
Core Research Focus
The center specializes in systemic disease research through multi-omics integration, covering but not limited to metabolic disorders, geriatric medicine, health monitoring and longitudinal tracking, organoid construction, and complex disease modeling. Key technological directions include the fusion analysis of high-throughput omics data (genomics, metabolomics, microbiomics, proteomics, single-cell omics, etc.), with an emphasis on developing AI algorithms deeply coupled with multi-omics technologies. Innovations such as AI agent-driven automated omics analysis platforms and proprietary algorithms (e.g., DM-RPart, Bayesian linear mixed model with MCMC) facilitate the discovery of critical biomarkers and precision intervention targets.
Clinical-Research Integration
The center emphasizes a "clinical-research" synergy by launching a Clinical Scholar Visiting Program for physicians from Fudan and partner hospitals. This initiative provides research-oriented clinicians with opportunities to join precision medicine projects, bridging clinical questions with mechanistic studies. The workflow spans clinical problem identification, data acquisition, model development, and translational validation, forming a closed-loop mechanism to accelerate real-world impact.
Global Collaboration
With a global vision, the center has established substantive collaborations with leading institutions such as Stanford University, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), and the University of Oxford (UK), engaging in joint research, talent development, and collaborative projects. An International Advisory Committee, composed of renowned experts, provides strategic guidance and evaluation, ensuring continuous global academic input and resource integration.
Accelerated Translational Pathways
To expedite technology commercialization, the center has established a "Fast-Track Translational Pipeline," supported by an in-house translational fund and a Translational Support Committee comprising industry leaders, venture capitalists, and corporate executives. This ecosystem offers end-to-end support—from technology incubation and clinical trials to regulatory pathways and market integration—creating a closed-loop translational medicine framework.
Education and Talent Development
The center has developed an "Online + AI-assisted" bioinformatics and precision medicine learning system, inspired by Stanford’s Data Ocean model, catering to learners at high school, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels. Additionally, dedicated programs sponsor doctoral and postdoctoral candidates for international exchanges, cultivating future leaders with interdisciplinary expertise, global perspectives, and innovative capabilities.
Vision
The Fudan University Phenome and Precision Medicine Research Center will pioneer original breakthroughs, drive cross-disciplinary innovation through models and algorithms, and bridge mechanistic research with clinical translation. By establishing a new paradigm in medical research, the center strives to deliver influential "Fudan Solutions" in the global precision medicine arena.
